Job Description:

Springfield Technical Community College is looking for a part-time instructor for our Certified Nurse Aide and Home Health Aide Training Program. The candidate must follow all guidelines set by STCC and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The candidate selected will be responsible for instructing and preparing our students for the State Certified Nurse Aide Certification test, providing front-line service for students enrolled in the Non-Credit Workforce Training Course in the Nurse Aide field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The instructor will follow the established curriculum and course content that has been designed for the college.
  • Provide lectures and hands-on instruction.
  • Create a learner-centered classroom environment and differentiate instruction based on the needs of students.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness so that students learn the specific skill sets and knowledge needed to obtain certification and to pursue a career as a nurse aide and/or home health aide.
  • Will keep accurate attendance, grade, and skills information as required by the Department of Public Health and the College.
  • Ensure that DPH standards are met.
  • Establish and maintain a close and positive working relationship with our clinical affiliate(s).
  • Coordinate the students' clinical rotation and accompany the students during their clinical experience.
  • Work collaboratively with other instructors and/or tutors.
  • Compiles and reports grade-related information in line with Workforce Development requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with a current and valid Massachusetts RN license.
  • At least two years of experience as a RN.
  • At least one year of experience in a nursing home facility providing care for the elderly or chronically ill.
  • Bilingual (Fluent in English & Spanish or English or Haitian Creole preferred).
  • Ability to instruct and lead discussions.
  • At least one year experience as a teacher, trainer, health care personnel instructor, or direct nurse aide supervisor. This must include experience in lesson planning, lesson delivery, student evaluation and remediation in a position such as in-service coordinator or staff educator in a healthcare setting, or completion of a minimum of 24 Board of Registration in Nursing approved continuing education hours in curriculum development, teaching adult learners and student evaluation.
  • Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Prior DPH instructor approval and experience.
  • Working with and assisting a diverse student population.

WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Duties normally performed in a classroom/lab environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to remain stationary and move about inside an office, classroom or lab. Must be able to operate or use computers, office machinery, copier, calculator etc. This person frequently communicates with students, employees or the community. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
