\n \n \n <p><b class="h2"><br>Job Description:</b><br>\n </p>\n
\nSpringfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for the position of Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Adjunct Faculty. Working with and under the supervision of the MLT Department Chair and Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation, this adjunct faculty is responsible for planning and delivering instruction to a diverse population of students, assessing academic performance and supporting student success. In line with Accreditation Standards set forth by the National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS), the candidate must be competent to deliver a broad scope of clinical laboratory science practice and have documented expertise in their area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of a variety of content delivery methods including distance learning.
\n\nThe adjunct faculty will be responsible for collaborating with MLT as well as other health faculty to create intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teaching and learning opportunities. In addition to teaching, this candidate will fulfill the duties of advising and College Service, in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. The MLT adjunct faculty must be nationally certified and possess and maintain a current ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist in Massachusetts.
\n\nSAMPLE OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the MLT Department Chair and the Dean of the SHPS, the MLT adjunct faculty will demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
\n\nLeadership and Management:
\n\n- \n
- Collaborates with the Department Chair to meet the long range and strategic plans of the campus and the MLT program. \n
- Works collaborative with Department Chair and faculty to complete annual program evaluation. \n
- Submits promptly, and in proper form, all reports and requests as set forth by the Department Chair, Dean of SHPS and the Vice President of Academic Affairs. \n
- Collaborates with faculty and other college staff on initiatives to increase support for occupational therapy assistant students and faculty. \n
- Attend all meetings as required. \n
Teaching & Assessment:
\n\n- \n
- In conjunction with the Department Chair, assesses student progress toward program goals which are consistent with the College's Student Success Plan and the College's mission. \n
- Ensures that student learning outcomes for courses are current and assessed regularly, documenting the process and submitting appropriate information to the Department Chair and Dean as requested. \n
- Teaches didactic education component of MLT courses to students from a diverse cultural and educational background. The person filling this position believes that all students can learn, and that student engagement in clinical education enhances knowledge of didactic content and leads to higher student success. \n
- Evaluates student academic performance in line with department policies and procedures. \n
- Provides guidance to students in their learning and educational planning. \n
- Advises students. \n
Personnel:

- Participates in campus/off-campus events and professional development activities. \n
- Abide by the regulations set out in the Massachusetts Community College Council collective bargaining agreement. \n
Facilities:
\n\n- Ensures utilization and proper maintenance of specialized learning equipment and materials for safe education and client practice.
Fiscal:
\n\n- Forwards recommendations on instructional supply and equipment needs to the Department Chair.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. \n
- Proof of a current ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist. Proof consists of submission of one of the following documents. \n
- A copy of the ASCP certification card. \n
- A copy of the ACSP certification certificate. \n
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience as an instructor in laboratory medicine, in the classroom or the laboratory. \n
- Knowledge of education methods, administration, current NAACLS accreditation procedures, and current national certification procedures. \n
- Experience and proficiency in curriculum design, clinical coordination, evaluation, instruction, program planning, and counseling preferred. \n
- Initial and continued employment dependent upon meeting a National Background Check, Drug Testing, a CORI/SORI check, and medical requirements. \n
