Job Description:

Where you fit in

The role will involve developing electrical, control and automation solutions to support the acquisition of vessels for Shell and Shells powering progress strategy.

Primarily located in London office, with opportunities for working from home but there may be site offices set up during ship builds/repair where staff may be seconded to.

What’s the role?

Accountabilities:

  • Development and Introduction of new technologies to support Shells powering progress strategy e.g. Fuel cells, hybrid battery systems and energy efficiency technologies.

  • Participate in project teams for ship new construction and conversions, including the preparation of outline specifications, technical evaluation of tenders, negotiation with short listed bidders, plan approval, design discussions with builder, attendance and witness at factory acceptance tests, commissioning and trials.

  • Effective liaison with personnel from professional bodies, shipyard managers, Shell Shipping fleet management operation units and Shell Group discipline engineers.

  • Follow policies and interpret legislative requirements with some guidance.

  • Keep abreast of industry developments and recognize potential for economic implementation of innovative ideas as a means of increasing operational safety or reducing costs.

  • Design, installation commissioning, certification and repair of equipment.

  • May be designated as a Technical Authority (TA), or Subject Matter Expert (SME).

  • Member of the Maritime Design & Engineering Global Technical Discipline.

What we need from you

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably a Master’s degree (in order to ease transition to a Chartered Engineer Status at a later date) qualified in an Electrical/Electronic Engineering related subject.

  • Relevant sea going experience or design and commissioning experience with a marine/offshore biased equipment vendor or designer.

  • Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge of electrical power systems or electrical control systems and of relevant issues in marine and offshore construction, design and operations.

  • Chartered Electrical Engineering status is advantageous.

  • Experience in Power Systems, Control Engineering, Instrumentation, Project Delivery.

  • Managing Sub-Contracts and Contract Management is nice to have.

  • Full understanding of the relevant Electrical Engineering Standards and Safe Working Practices.

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment suitable for use in hazardous areas and hazardous area installations.

  • Ability to analyse and develop proposals and solutions to a wide range of technical and operational problems seeking guidance from Senior’s where necessary.

  • A team player with the necessary communication (oral and written) skills to interface with other disciplines and the ability to produce written reports of a high quality in the English language.

  • Experience in Heavy Electrical Power, Refineries, Off-Shore Engineering and Shipbuilding industries preferred.

  • Maintain a contemporary knowledge base within own area of expertise.
