Did you know that in Sensata, we have developed a leading-edge tyre pressure system that can detect rapid tyre deflation and instruct the vehicle stability system to take remedial action in less than 500miliseconds, before the driver even has time to react?

Not only do we design the world’s best tyre pressure sensors, but we also develop embedded software that runs on vehicle ECUs and our next generation of Bluetooth sensors. Our future includes machine learning, distributed processing, and edge/cloud architectures. We work with the majority of the top Car Companies, worldwide.

We are seeking top technical talent to expand our global engineering team, which is currently 160 engineers across 3 sites, on track to generate over $500m of annual sales. As a Senior Systems Design Engineer, you will work with a cross-functional team to develop these innovative solutions and have an opportunity to influence not only what we build, but how we build it.

There is an opportunity to expand from Systems Engineering into all other areas of Product Development.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Systems engineering for automotive sensing product developments, including requirement engineering, system design and analysis.
  • Working closely with customers, some of the world’s biggest automotive manufacturers
  • Performing the role of product owner in a cross functional agile team, working closely with sub system design teams to refine product features
  • Understanding customer technical requirements and expectations, and developing/driving tyre condition assessment solutions from concept to launch
  • Development of specifications and formalized representations of solutions (System architecture, flow charts, models) that meet customer needs
  • Understanding ISO 26262, ASPICE and cyber security and ensuring system development in compliance with these standards
  • Delivering proof-of-concept demonstrations to customers and development partners
  • Algorithm development and modelling of system level behaviour for new functionality.
  • Technical support for concept and business case development for new business quotations
  • Systems engineering for automotive sensing product developments, including requirement engineering, system design and analysis.


Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results
  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Specific Criteria

  • 5+ years' experience in decomposing customer requirements in a solution that spans hardware, software and firmware
  • Must be able to communicate technical issues, risks and status in written, oral and presentation form.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge and experience of working in the automotive industry
  • Use of CAN tools such as CANoe and CANdela Studio.
  • Experience working in an Agile development framework using Scrum methodology (or an interest to learn this)
  • Knowledge/understanding of embedded electronics and software systems
  • Knowledge of requirements management
  • Experience of modelling/simulation
