Where you fit in

You’ll join Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo), the in-house asset manager for Shell’s pension funds and insurance companies, operating under a Dutch AIFM licence including MiFIDII services. It’s a dynamic, global environment with clients in seven different countries and more than 200 professionals. SAMCo is licensed as a fund manager and provides portfolio services. Continuous change in the financial markets and in financial regulations make this a professionally challenging place to work – regulations and Compliance are at the very top of our agenda.

SAMCo invests in fixed income, equities, and alternative investments categories (such as private equity funds and other investment funds) for clients, all over the world. On behalf of its clients, SAMCo also deals in various kinds of swaps and derivatives, repos, securities lending etc. Specific parts of the activities are also outsourced to external managers.

What’s the role?

We’ll entrust you with:

  • Leading the Risk Analytics team, consisting of 4 direct reports.

  • Providing review, challenge and steer on investment proposals from front office departments. (2nd line risk management)

  • Engaging with key stakeholders on investment risk matters, including senior members of the SAMCo investment community

  • Provide deep dives on strategies and portfolios

  • Ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of various building blocks for risk monitoring and reporting

  • Develop and maintain risk frameworks and advise on credit risk, market risk, counterparty risk, model risk, etc.

  • Develop the area of sustainability risk

  • Attracting, motivating and developing the talent within SAMCo. Represent Risk Analytics in Investment Committee and other formal and informal meetings

What we need from you

You will have:

  • Substantial experience in investment risk management with experience of applying quantitative financial risk methods and delivering investment risk analysis, ideally across several asset classes or equivalent experience in investments, combined with the ambition to develop into risk management

  • A quantitative background (i.e. econometrics or mathematics)

  • A relevant qualification in financial investment or risk (e.g. CFA or FRM);

  • Experience of leading a team with the ability to coach and motivate specialists;

  • Knowledge of application of financial derivatives in portfolio management (e.g. in LDI portfolios);

  • Knowledge of programming, model management, systems implementation projects and/or data management is an advantage;

  • Strong communication skills with fluency in English and the ability to convey complex analysis in a concise, understandable manner to all levels of the organisation;

  • Pro-active attitude; the ability to identify and solve problems, think independently and drive for improvements;

  • A collaborative approach, working with other teams to deliver results, building trust and having the courage to challenge others on their views.

  • Strong capacity and analytical skills, with the ability to see the bigger picture and exercise judgement
