The Maritime Project Manager, part of Shell’s Maritime Technical Function, provides project and maritime technical skills to Shell Group Companies, Joint Ventures and Industry Bodies on the hull and maritime elements of offshore floating production and/or storage facilities.
What is the Role
The role involves:
- New Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO), FSO and FLNG projects
- Supporting surface engineering concept selection teams in field development
- Selection of oil evacuation systems
- Development of hull and marine specifications
- Supporting tender clarifications and evaluations
- Carrying out design reviews and assurance
- Supporting HSSE ALARP processes (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA etc)
- Supporting construction and commissioning
- Existing FPSO Assets
- Managing inspection, maintenance, modification and repair projects
- Supporting Life Extension projects
- Supporting decommissioning of FPSOs
- Supporting investment and divestment assurance
- Acting as Technical Authority in Maritime Design Engineering
- Developing Shell Group standards and recommended practices
- Oil Evacuation technology and studies:
- Leading studies for optimisation and decarbonisation of oil evacuation options
- Oversight on new DP2 Shuttle Tanker construction
- Review of new concepts and technology
What we need from you
Skills and Requirements:
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
- Experience as one of the following with shore-based maritime practical experience gained from working in shipyards, or as part of a shore FPSO operation team or ship management team.
- A senior marine engineer
- A senior naval architect or hull superintendent
- A Marine Electro-Technology Officer
- Senior STCW license or degree holder
- Minimum of 8 years of industry experience
- Extensive overall experience in the merchant maritime industry OR the FPSO industry, including significant time as project engineer/project manager, or ship engineer superintendent or in another operations role (preferably with strong international experience). Has a wide of network of contacts within the maritime and/or offshore industry.
- Diverse experience in ship repair or offshore repair, ship repair yards, new-construction shipyards and ship / offshore vessel / FPSO operations. Has experience of managing dry-dockings, repairs afloat, turnarounds, particularly with oil / products / chemical tankers. Experience with auditing and inspection of vessels. Knowledge, or experience managing life-extension projects
- Highly competent in own discipline and able to deliver as discipline specialist and Technical Authority. Generally knowledgeable in other disciplines (Nautical, Naval Architecture, Maritime Engineering, Electrical, EIC, DP systems). Able to lead, mentor and challenge other discipline specialists where required.
Additional Information:
- Examples of team projects include Life Extension of Deepwater FPSOs, new specifications for new deepwater FPSOs, risk-based inspection and maintenance programs for FPSOs, DP2 Shuttle Tanker new-builds
- International travel and working at remote sites are expected up to 25% of time
- Role is based in Houston, but may be open to UK base for the right candidate
- For UK and US-based roles, must already have legal right to work in the UK and USA respectively.
- Must be fluent in the English language (spoken and written)
- Must be fit and capable of occasional strenuous exercise (confined space entry, climbing stairs, ladders and staging onboard FPSOs, in shipyards
- Must be cable of obtaining BOSIET, HUET, confined space and working at heights certification for occasional visits offshore
