About the Role
The Head of Experience Design (HXD) plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of human-centered design by surfacing strategies that inform the mid- and long-term trajectories of our product experiences. This influential role uncovers viable innovation opportunities through insights and emerging technologies; leading a small visionary team in exploring, architecting, and prototyping highly desirable user experiences transcending industry standards to set new excellence benchmarks for unparalleled design that captivates and delights evolving user needs.

About You
You have a record of envisioning and delivering organization-wide innovation and improvement by pioneering comprehensive, next-gen experiences; establishing collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to develop groundbreaking product plans and future landscapes that elevate the customer experience over time to maintain a competitive edge. You use your strong analytical thinking skills to balance evolving technologies with practicality and market viability; leading your team in realizing highly usable and sustainable design strategies—prototyping to viability to secure critical business buy-in.
This position requires west coast (Pacific) hours with limited domestic and international travel for in-person events, meetings, and workshops.


Key job responsibilities
1. Manages a team of designers, researchers and content writers.
2. Leads design assessments of upcoming programs, identifying potential UX opportunities and challenges, and then presenting them back to stakeholders.
3. Identifies and presents solutions for design problems across our customer lifecycle.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of design experience
- 5+ years of leading multi-discipline Design teams (ie. visual design, interaction design, user research, etc.) experience
- Experience managing teams
- Experience leading a diverse team in the delivery of experiences from end to end (user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity visuals)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience presenting to and effectively advising senior leaders outside of design
- Experience embedding design within product teams for agile design and development collaboration

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $144,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $268,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
