We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join the athenahealth Care Collaboration team. At the cutting edge of the healthcare market’s shift towards value-based care, the Care Collaboration sub-division works with an industry leading client base to deliver capabilities to enable patient-centric care, from Population Analytics to Care Management to Behavioral Health. You will provide technical leadership to a team of talented engineers who are transforming healthcare data into actionable insights that empower clinicians, researchers, and administrators to deliver better care.

The Team

The Insight & Measurement team is responsible for unlocking the value of athena’s value-based care (VBC) data and building athena’s next generation analytics suite for population health and VBC. I&M is focused on using scalable data technologies to deliver insights and drive actions across multiple sets of users, including Care Managers, Analysts, and providers. The ideal candidate would lead a team of software engineers while working closely with Product and Design counterparts to deliver new value-based care analytics experiences. Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
  • Further craft the engineering vision for analytics and reporting for population health and value-based care, ensuring alignment with business objectives and healthcare data best practices
  • Drive planning and execution for scrum teams, to deliver releases in alignment with organizational and product objectives
  • Maintain knowledge of product architecture, connective dependencies, technical concerns such as rollout strategies, performance, and scalability to ensure the right decisions are made
  • Coach your team; provide regular feedback and encouragement to help them learn and grow
  • Foster a culture of engineering best practices, collaboration, and continual improvement
  • Share the team vision and strategy to foster an understanding of the overall direction and the "why" behind decisions
  • Partner closely with Product Owner and User Experience Designer to align and accelerate engineering team
  • Identify and remove impediments to team progress
  • Build cross-functional and cross-organization relationships to drive initiatives to successful completion
  • Collaborate effectively with data scientists, analysts, engineers, and business leaders to translate data needs into actionable solutions

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or Engineering Manager or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years leading teams in a technical environment
  • Proven expertise in at least one programming language like Java, Python, JavaScript/jQuery, C#, and Perl
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, inspiring and motivating others to achieve goals
  • Experience in distributed systems, cloud-based architecture and highly-available systems
  • Experience leading teams with Agile methodologies and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proven track record of implementing and driving adoption of new data technologies and methodologies
  • Track record of growing your engineers and teams
  • Collaborative approach to driving best possible results and outcome for the customer
